THE WISDOM OF CROWDS, THE WISDOM OF BLOGS ... an interesting article heralding a new book by James Surowiecki.
In an experiment a class was asked to guess how many jellybeans were in a jar. When collected, tallied and averaged, the class guessed 851. There were 875 jelly beans ... or anyway that's close enough to get the point across. Only one student made a better guess than the average. The book contains many other examples of crowd wisdom. Fascinating!
