Spanische Hofreitschule, in Vienna, as I remember my German, is the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. We saw the Lipizzaners tonight and it was just fantastic. I can't remember when I've had so much fun. There were lots and lots of little girls there. Deb and I both were crazy about horses when we were girls, too! Deb remembered a Walt Disney show about Lipizzaners when she was young and she had dreamed of seeing them ever since!
There was so much tradition and they haven't done anything to jazz it up or make it modern. The horses perform to classical music. We were most surprised that of the 8-15 riders, most were women.
So, my birthday has officially gotten off to a great start.
There was a special salute to General Patton for saving the Lipizzaners from the Russians during the war.
