My daughter and I have a tennis match on Wednesday. We've been practicing and drilling each other on net shots, serves, placing shots, etc. We are bringing refreshments of fresh fruit and my energy bars which are balanced between carbs, fat. etc. They are fresh organic peanut butter based with a little honey, corn syrup, crushed oatmeal, cinnamon, and cocoa powder. I left the salt out and used whipped honey this time.

I'm running (softly) about an hour each day to get in better shape. Today I worked on changing over my shots from racquetball to tennis and my daughter gave me some good tips.

We wonder how we got started on all this. We make a good team, never get upset with each other. She's my baby, after all!!! [And I'm her ma.]

What else is new ... I'm reading The Iliad and I realize now I never read it before, just fits and starts of it in various classes. This is an excellent translation and it flies by. This time I'm studying the role of the gods in the story. Each one is preeminent in his or her own field. Zeus must be obeyed but it is permissible to trick him. That's interesting, isn't it?

I'm also tracking the oaths in the book because I'm going to write an article on oaths. I know in Hamlet for example, that oaths are under penalty of eternal fire and damnation -- and the evil of curses such as Verdi's operas, "Maledictions!!!!!!! -- but I had forgotten the same sanctions applied in classical times. The Greeks expected revenge by Zeus if an oath was broken and later, of course, as their psychology developed the Erinyes, They Who Drive Men Mad.
