Now that Thanksgiving is here, I thought I would put my mother's Christmas sugar cookie recipe here. It's the best!
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup shortening
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Sift dry ingredients. Add shortening and mix with fork. Add unbeaten eggs and flavoring. Roll out dough with rolling pin dusting board with flour. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes.
Then I'll tell you what my mother always told me, "Watch them carefully" -- they burn quickly!
You can use butter or a mixture of butter/margarine or shortening but I love these best with shortening.
Enjoy! They are the yummiest.
