This is a testimonial from a handsome man in his mid forties who contacted me for a reading last year ....

"I was introduced to Nancy by a mutual friend. I was going through a divorce when I first met her and was in a terrible state of mind. In addition, my business was suffering because of all my emotional trauma and I didn't know where to turn.

"Nancy was one of the peopleI was attracted to seek help and counseling from. She was amazing. She understood me but was not at all passive and mushy. Instead she was strong, firm and very intuitive. She guided me to right my ship, get my life together, get my business straight and move on to the best time of my life.

"I am enjoying the best time of my life now. I have introduced Nancy to several of my friends, xxx, xxx and others and all have rave reviews.

"I love Nancy dearly and consider her a valuable and loving part of my life."

Adamo Brisilias

[I love Adam, too.]

Do you know someone who needs to "right their ship". Please send them my way. I'd love to meet your friends and take care of them for you, with you. Everyone should move ahead to the best time of their lives!!

Dear Diary,

My birthday celebration at the Mission Hills Cafe last night was warm and wonderful. There were ten of us there and others in spirit. I'll have some photos up in a day or two. I ate three pieces of their homebread, a world favorite of mine. My entree was lamb navarin. I had a bean salad appetizer and strawberry crepe for desert. It was fantastic as always. Paula bought me a glass of wine! No one could hear anyone else but the temperature and the atmosphere were perfect for a great party time.

My daughter gave me a scrapbook she's been working on for six months. She made one for me, one for her father (who turned 60 in June) and one for my twin sister. As many of you know, she collected notes, cards and memorabilia, photos, etc., from people I've known since the time I was born. She gave it to me yesterday and I've had a great stroll down Memory Lane.

I lived so many different places and have been blessed with so many friends, whom I consider STARS IN MY CROWN (I have Moon in Libra in the 11th house trine Uranus in the 7th).

The most surprising entry ? ... you ask yourself (!!) ... Diane and Tom Bertrand. Diane baby sat for my daughter during her first two years on the planet when I had to return to work due to circumstances beyond my control (her father returned from VietNam in not such great shape). I cried for weeks every day at my desk when I had to leave my baby and go to the offic. Diane was just wonderful with both of us!! Diane taught my daughter how to talk, eat, potty trained her (with lollipops!) and Tom lay on the couch when he wasn't in Viet Nam tossing pillows at her and laughing. Tom often drove us home at night as I was exhausted and without private transportation. Tom and Diane returned to Menonimee, Michigan after Tom got back from active duty and we've not heard from each other since.

The other big surprise was my twin's sexy sexy boyfriend from Central Texas, LW. He didn't have the time of day for me in high school but somehow my daughter didn't know that and I got a short letter from him. This guy put Marlon Brando and Brad Pitt to shame he was so sexy and handsome. He should have starred in the movie, "And God Created Young Males".

Tomorrow night my daughter and some friends are taking me to Ruth's Chris for one of those great steaks. There will be one more celebration with my son-in-law on Wednesday night and that will conclude this year's festitivies in LeoLand.

For my very auspicious birthday (July 26) ... these are a few of my favorite things

This is the nicest Tarot book I've seen in a long time. It's beautifully designed and set up intuitively. It's visual ... reads like an internet page. The reproductions of various Tarot cards is fantastic. The Crowley deck predominates in the border pages, but every deck you can imagine is represented in glossy color photographs. Thanks to my Tarot student Gina for bringing this over to my house yesterday.

Time Abuse

Clinical psychologist and executive coach Steve Berglas, Harvard Business School graduate, reports interesting information about TIME ABUSE.

According to Berglas, "Time abuse is very different from the common and well-covered problem of time management. While the vast majority of us can benefit from practical insights on how to organize our lives better, lessons in time management will have little impact on time abusers. That's because real time abuse results from psychological conflict that neither a workshop nor a manager's cajoling can easily cure. Indeed, the time abuser's quarrel isn't even with time but rather with a brittle self-esteem and an unconscious fear of being evaluated and found wanting. That's why you should focus your efforts on what makes a time abuser anxious instead of teaching him how to organize his day."

Over the years he has come across four types of time abusers. This is how Berglas defines the types, a few of which I think may just be introverts. See what you think. I quote directly from the article, which is linked below for your full interest.

The Preemptive
Regardless of the different ways they might disrupt colleagues, time abusers are alike in that they are all highly inflexible individuals who believe deeply that they are doing the best job possible. This is most true for preemptives -- the rarest of time abusers. Preemptives are the people who compulsively beat the clock. They finish assignments weeks ahead of schedule and always seem to be in control.

So what's the problem? Often, there is none. In fact, preemptives can thrive for long periods in organizations without ever drawing negative attention to themselves precisely because managers delight in having what appear to be low-maintenance workers. Over time, however, preemptives can cause morale problems because they ignore how their behavior affects others. Indeed, preemptives are seldom team players. While their work is often first-rate, they are typically asocial individuals who, while not actively hostile, fail to take their group's needs into account.

The People Pleaser
Another type of time-challenged employee who can appear at first glance to be a dream come true is the people pleaser. While the vast majority of us want to be helpful -- and let's face it, anyone who constantly says no will quickly be shown the door -- this doesn't alter the fact that saying yes all the time is highly dysfunctional. When a person chronically takes on more and more responsibilities out of a fear of confronting authority, he will inevitably commit too much of his time to unproductive projects -- for instance, he will sit on a project that he should have passed on to someone else much earlier.

In the workplace, the people pleaser often resorts to time abuse to vent her anger. For example, she agrees to take on a task she doesn't want and then devotes obsessive attention to its minutest details. Although this form of over-compliance can win approval from others, unchecked it can lead to conflicts with the very authority figures she is endeavoring to please.

The Perfectionist
Like people pleasers, perfectionists are time abusers who can hold people hostage for indefinite periods of time. But perfectionists do it out of anguish rather than rage. They take more time than allotted to satisfy extremely unrealistic but deeply internalized standards of excellence. And they get away with it because they do first-rate work.

For a perfectionist, performance is all or nothing; good enough will never suffice. To achieve such high ideals, the perfectionist posts psychological Do Not Disturb signs all around him as he works. Emotionally isolated in this way, he frequently appears arrogant and dismissive. Whether that is true or not, the fact is, the perfectionist does require absolute control over the quality of the product he produces.

Perfectionists don't let rules get in the way: In their pursuit of excellence, they ignore all the regulations, often to the dismay of colleagues who seldom, if ever, see value added from the perfectionist's determination to turn in a flawless product.

The Procrastinator
Procrastinators are the Michelangelos of time abusers. They are the kids back in school who used to complain that the dog ate their homework. The most common type of time abuser, procrastinators leave assignments until the 11th hour and then throw themselves (and others) into a panic, working round-the-clock in a vain attempt to meet a deadline. If asked by his boss, "Where is that work you promised?" the procrastinator sincerely responds, "I'll show you as soon as I get this monkey off my back." The problem is, the monkey never goes away.

Procrastinators resemble perfectionists in that they both run shamelessly late. But while a perfectionist is sweating to achieve an A+ because that's the only grade that's acceptable to him, a procrastinator postpones doing any work because he secretly fears that he cannot produce an A.

Of course, the procrastinator doesn't simply refuse to work -- he gets interrupted by other assignments or is sidetracked by unexpected crises: illness, family problems or just plain old car trouble.

Words for my Geburtstag Birthday

Das Leben liegt weder in der Vergangenheit noch in der Zukunft, sondern allein in der Gegenwart. The only way to be alive is in the present moment.

This is from Andrea, my colleague in Germany, on my birthday card. It has a picture of bamboo and a bridge. Andrea has a new BLOG now. Take a visit and see what creative things she's doing.

[see below to order from amazon]

Also der Tipp fuer die Webseite gilt natuerlich nicht nur fuer alle um 30, ich glaube, bei dem Umfang koennte dort jeder etwas fuer sich selbst finden. [ja! Nancy]

This is an interesting commentary from Forbes Online Magazine about our favorite search engine ... It's bt one of my favorite writers, Dan Ackman.

"The Google IPO [initial public offering of stock] is so mind blowing that the only way to even think about it is to google it. The company, along with existing shareholders, including executives, plans to sell 24.6 million shares for $108 to $135 a share. If successful, Google would, on paper, be worth between $29 billion and $36 billion. The IPO itself would generate between $2.7 billion and $3.3 billion.

"What's harder to fathom,: Ackman continues, " is that Google would, to investors, be worth more than Ford Motor, Vivendi Universal OR Schering-Plough , and perhaps as much as Boeing."

This certainly says a lot about the intangible nature of the world today, doesn't it?

Ackman:  "To put these numbers in context, we searched Google. For $108, the prospective low end cost of a single Google share, you could buy an IBM people laptop battery or a motherboard for your computer. For $135, the upper range of the IPO, you could buy an Adirondack chair or a night at a hotel in Saratoga Springs (where, by the way, you could take another $135 to the racetrack and parlay it).

"For $29 billion, you could make whole the world's software industry for their losses from pirated software last year (that number coming from a software trade group, so it may be inflated). You could also pay the cost to the 50 states from unfunded mandates imposed by the federal government. You could also buy, at the latest average price, roughly 152,000 new homes, enough to house (at four people per home) everyone in the city of Boston.

Raising the stakes to $36 billion, you could pay Microsoft back for the cost of its special dividend--and have $4 billion in change. Or you could house Baltimore. Or you could pay the entire U.S. foreign aid bill twice (not counting Iraq)."

Spanische Hofreitschule, in Vienna, as I remember my German, is the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. We saw the Lipizzaners tonight and it was just fantastic. I can't remember when I've had so much fun. There were lots and lots of little girls there. Deb and I both were crazy about horses when we were girls, too!

Deb remembered a Walt Disney show about Lipizzaners when she was young and she had dreamed of seeing them ever since!

There was so much tradition and they haven't done anything to jazz it up or make it modern. The horses perform to classical music. We were most surprised that of the 8-15 riders, most were women.

So, my birthday has officially gotten off to a great start.

There was a special salute to General Patton for saving the Lipizzaners from the Russians during the war.

July 26 is my birthday and in true introvert fashion, I like to celebrate it in a way that is meaningful to me. I love to meet with my friends one on one for dinner during the week before and after, so that I can touch bases, celebrate and really have quality time.

The celebrating began last week at the golf club with my friend of many many years, Jean, out here in Jamul. It was a lovely evening, beautiful warm night and lots of golfers still out on the driving range to watch. I had roast beef (of course)! because after all, it's my birthday.

Tomorrow night my dear friend Deb is taking me to see the Lippizaner stallions and I can hardly wait!!!

Thursday any one who'd like to come is welcome to meet with us for dinner at 6:30 at the Mission Hills Cafe (Dutch). If you'd like to join, let me know and I'll make the reservation. Mission Hills Cafe is located at 808 West Washington at Goldfinch. They have the best table d'hote menu and fresh baked bread in the whole world. That's why I picked the Mission Hills Cafe!!!

My daughter has a dinner planned for me at Ruth's Chris after the Fair at Soulscape in Encinitas next weekend. So, that's all the birthday news that's fit to print.

I'm glad I was born. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here reading this (!) I especially have always loved my high summer birthday. It seems the perfect time to be born as I love the sun and the summer. Usually my crepe myrtle is blooming by now ... planted in honor of my grandmother Gertrude Stolterfoht Hale. But this year it got too dry for a few days and so it's blossoms will be a little late this year.

This time last year I visited the shrine of St. Sergei in Russia and made my wish for a husband, a man to love and who would love me. I dedicate this entry to St. Sergei and I praise his name. His relics are in an ancient church outside of Moscow.

From avanova ... "A monkey at an Israeli zoo started walking like a human after recovering from a serious illness.  Natasha, a five-year-old macaque at the Safari Park, near Tel Aviv, now walks exclusively on her hind legs.  She almost died of severe stomach flu but suddenly stabilised and was released from the zoo’s clinic. Workers at the zoo say that’s when she started walking upright exclusively, reports CBC News. Monkeys usually alternate between upright walking and moving on all fours. A zoo veterinarian says he’s not sure why she has altered her behaviour but says the illness could have caused brain damage. "

Or maybe she took a leap in evolution, like many humans do during near death experiences. Anyway, it's very sweet and we wish her well with her new adventure. Life must look very different from this new perspective.

Come away, oh human child!
To the waters and the wild.
-- W.B. Yeats

What a difference a year makes.

Nancy and Katya last summer at this time in Russia.
Katya's village is called Svir Stroy.

I would also like to sing in praise of the Russian dogs I met this time last year.

This little dog, on the island of Uglich, had eyes only for its owner.

This dog lived on Svir Stroy.
He waited outside the ice cream shop, definitely the best place in town to eat.

This dog lived on Kizhi Island, a village very far north.

I just read this in Forbes today:

Dennis FitzSimons' six-month reign as chairman of Tribune Co. has been a tumultuous one. The mayhem continued Monday when its namesake Chicago Tribune failed to put out a full-edition newspaper for the first time since the catastrophic Chicago Fire in 1871. This latest calamity under FitzSimons, caused by a software upgrade that crashed printing operations ....

Don't you feel for this poor guy?

Of course I have mixed emotions because I worked for The Chicago Sun-Times after I graduated from college in Minnesota. Roger Ebert and I began work there the same month (!) Walt Disney died that summer and Roger's obituary shot him to stardom. He had just graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana, I believe. So now you know how old I am!!! Roger took me Irish pub crawling one night and we shared some good times together as rookies on the paper.

I worked for Bill Mauldin, the Pulitzer prize winning nationally syndicated cartoonist. I also tagged along with the drama, ballet and movie critics to all the exciting things happening in Chicago at that time.

I left to marry my ex-husband and we moved to Coronado, California.

Melanie Whitley of MOJOART has chosen NANCY'S eZINE as a favorite and we' re so pleased. Please visit Melanie's beautiful website and see what she can do for you!

"Melanie Whitley’s art is diverse both in themes and media used. The main subjects of her work ranges from conservative and subtle landscapes; to lofty images seeped in ancient mystical traditions; and whimsical illustrations showcasing the similarities of life as a long running cartoon. She does this not to confuse, but as a way to explore the many facets of the human experience. She feels that there is truth and beauty in every moment of our lives, and she strives to tangibly record those formless imprints of our psyches in whatever style best suits their nature."

Thanks, Melanie!

Reuben ... means ... Behold, a Son!

Sometimes women don't know what to do to help with the world situation, the wars and violence. There are two things you can do. Refuse to have your son circumcised and give him a name that means peace, not war.

Here's an excerpt from my article that was recently reprinted in HopeandSpirit eMagazine

As a metaphysician, I know that nothing is a coincidence. Many of the most popular boys’ names through the ages are derived from Hebrew, Greek, Latin and Teutonic (German) words for weapons, helmets and other military apparatus, or they are the names of famous warriors or epithets for them such as “great protector” or “stalwart guardian”. I wonder if we are ready to change our expectations about boys and encourage a more gentle and peaceful nature in them instead by naming them names that come from the words for oak tree (Orick), for example, or wide meadow (Bradley).

The fact that we don’t know what these names mean when we pick them doesn’t change their meanings. We are sure of this in spiritual metaphysics. Nothing is “not known” to the subconscious mind. These names are in the collective unconscious of every person who comes from the Judaeo-Christian tradition.

Please Read more ...

Here are the 10 most popular boys’ names in America in 2002 and their meanings.

As you read them, consider whether you would consciously choose this quality for your son.

1. Jacob (Hebrew) supplanter
2. Michael (Hebrew) gift from God
3. Joshua (Hebrew) god is salvation
4. Matthew (Hebrew) gift of Jehovah
5. Ethan (Hebrew) strong
6. Joseph (Hebrew) may Jehovah give increase
7. Andrew (English and Scottish) manly and brave
8. Christopher (English) one who holds Christ in his heart
9. Daniel (Hebrew) God is my judge
10. Nicholas (Greek) named after Nike, the goddess of victor

I wonder if someone really knew what these names meant if they would still use them.

In the 2002 list the percentage of Hebrew names has increased from 30% to 70%. Many of the Hebrew names are different kinds of blessings from God.

Here are some more warlike names we could do without:

1. Edgar (Teutonic) rich spear
2. Gerard (T) firm spear
3. Gerald (T) spear power
4. Harold (T) warrior power
5. Ivan (T) archer
6. William (T) helmet
7. Ichabod (Hebrew) the glory is departed
8. Lewis, Louis (French) famous warrior
9. Marcus (Latin) of Mars
10. Oscar (English) bounding warrior
11. Owen (English) young warrior
12. Randolph, house wolf
13. Rudolf (T) wolf of fame
14. Roger (T) spear of fame
15. Tristan (T) mad face
16. Vincent (Latin) conquering
17. Victor (Latin) conqueror

Maybe we could replace them with names of good things, places and plants, like these:

1. Benedict (Latin) Sunday’s child
2. David and Benjamin (Hebrew) beloved
3. Albrecht (English) intelligent
4. Ehren (German) honorable
5. Wilfred (English) resolute peace
6. Edric, power and good fortune
7. Bashshar (Arabic) brings good news
8. Benen (Irish) kind
9. Stillman (English) quiet
10. Demario (Spanish) quiet

Or what about my favorite boy's name, Reuben, which means in Hebrew, "Behold a son."

Let's name our sons consciously.  It's something we can all do to further peace in our world.

Astrology is an exciting way for man to discover his highest potential.

"An astrological description of our patterns on earth can reveal many subtle truths about our behavior, and that of others. It can be important in helping attain a deeper understanding of relationships and our specific, individual paths of destiny. I've read it so many times, I have parts of it memorized. Her descriptions are so vivid they will live in your memory and come back to you at critical times in reading for others.

Jeanne's descriptions of Mars/Uranus and Mars/Pluto are unforgettable. You'll never look at these aspects the same way again.

Jeanne gives examples from the lives of real people. She was a professional film star and knows many famous people but all the descriptions in the book are vivid and illustrative of the points she makes.

Kati * Mark * Kathy * Robin * Yolanda

Introverts just like we are ... sharing their stories about what it's like to COME OUT.

You see like many of us introverts I had been told that there was an ideal type of person to be and being me was simply not good enough. --Kati

The more I read on Nancy's site and others the more I could see how I had grown up in a family of extroverts in my dad, brother and sister and that how early on in my life the goal was always to be like them or other outgoing people. I remember so many times forcing myself to be whom I wasn't and feeling exhausted. --Mark

People cause me by far the most difficulty. I love Nature and feel nourished in a forest. I love animals and very young babies - before they learn to talk. -- Kathy

You may not be as confident or as socially skilled or whatever you don't think you are, but remember what you do have, if your feeling down, listen to some music, write down your thoughts, write a story, dance around, spend time with your pet, doing whatever makes you feel good about yourself. -- Robin

One of my main concerns is that many extroverts in the U.S. have a strong tendency to use their excess verbiage for emotionally brutal purposes. For example, extroverts have often asked, me, "Do you EVER talk?" when they know they have heard me literally talk on several occasions. -- Yolanda

The Power behind the Throne

One of my favorites in Troy is Nestor because he is the quintessential introvert. He stands thoughtfully by and compliments the energy of the outrageous extrovert, Agamemnon.

Here is an excerpt from the latest INTROVERTS COMING OUT SERIES, a lovely lady name KATI. This is from KATI's STORY

"My story would not be complete without naming the beautiful woman named Elizabeth who shared some of the simplest yet profound wisdom with us all. She started off by reminding us that no one test can define us. [She was administering an MBTI personality inventory]. Then came the word introvert. This was me -- the test said so. Then came the best part -- She said that we are all valued. That even thought the western world put a high value on extroverted talents, extroverts needed introverts in very important ways. We are the counselor to their warrior king/queen. We are the sage hermits that the world needs to remain in balance.

I think we might take this a step further and contemplate that we might be the natural result of evolution and that some day we will be the majority.

Nestor was a great "Hermit" type. If you see the movie more than once, you'll see the power behind the throne. I am especially thinking of the scene where Agamemnon (Brian Cox) is screaming "I built Greece, Nestor, I..." Watch Nestor's expression of deep understanding but also compassion for what this man is ... and can never be.

John Shrapnel also had the role of Senator Gaius in The Gladiator and a part in Notting Hill.

Washington attorney Nell Minow is the creator of moviemon.com.  She made this statement in a 2002 Newsweek Magazine interview:

"When I was researching my book, it was amazing to me the number of people in their 20s who said they wished their parents had been more restrictive [about the movies they were taken to see]. Every person said they'd seen some movie they felt they were too young to see and that they were damaged by."

Note from yahoo, the publisher's review:  "What if you could teach your children about life with popcorn and wonderful movies? Here at last is the ultimate reference for every frustrated parent who knows that television can be more than an electronic babysitter. ...

"The Movie Mom's Guide to Family Movies recommends hundreds of superb movies available on video-movies that offer more than mindless explosions, casual sex, and limiting stereotypes of women and minorities -- movies that exercise the mind and spirit and bring the whole family closer together.  Neil Minow understands that the stories movies tell can encourage children to think, feel, and question -- and to share those thoughts and feelings with their parents."

New publicity shot for upcoming articles in InLightTimes

Nancy discusses two important characteristics of introverts in her article, LOVED REAL:
(1) obsession and
(2)emotional depth

Here are two excerpts from LOVED REAL by Nancy R. Fenn. The first is about obsession.

Obsession

THE RED SHOES is in the public domain now and can be viewed on the internet. The Red Shoes was one of my favorite stories as a child and I was later fascinated with the movie starring Moira Shearer. It is a morality tale on the surface but underneath it is a story of passionate obsession. The ability to become obsessed is a characteristic of most introverts. It is closely associated with our exalted powers of concentration and ability to focus.

See Nancy's IntrovertZFilm pages for a look at The Red Shoes and other films for and with introverts.

Visit Hadley Ajana's I WATCH for INTROVERTS film essay series as well.

The second excerpt is about depth.

Depth

THE LITTLE MERMAID, in its original version, is tale of unrequited love that is almost too painful to read. Andersen describes the anguish of worshipping from a distance that is all too familiar for introverts, who suffer in the extreme at a disadvantage because the depth of their feelings finds no avenue to the outer world.

Please don't ever confuse Walt Disney's version of a fairy tale with the real thing. I recommend reading Hans Christian Andersen's original fairy tale of The Little Mermaid. Read it HERE.

I think a lot of infp introverts would identify with the feeling that some of the things they have gone through to stay in the general vicinity of a loved one could be compared to walking on glass shards, things such as going to parties or visiting with large groups of relatives on holidays.

Are we really like this?

From Cagle's series on "Men are Idiots" and "Women are Idiots"

This has been one of the happiest summers (years) of my life. First of all, with a stellium in the 9th house, I love to be outdoors in all weather but especially fun out here in the country in the heat of summer. I've been playing tennis every day, as I said in an earlier entry. It reminds me of one summer my twin and I spent on Martha's Vineyard with the Bowers family. We were 16 and there was a great group of teens on the island that summer. A great many of the old houses were not owner occupied at that time and there was a flux of guests visiting all summer long, renting the houses for a few weeks or a month or two.

We spent most of the day hanging out at the tennis courts. There was always someone to play with besides each other! We met some really nice guys from the coast near Raleigh-Durham.

Secondly, I have had my heart's desire in two ways this summer as well. I would say this is a temporary Neptunian heaven.

Speaking of Neptune, this is the week, by the way, that Mars and Neptune are in contact leading to confusion and to everyone feeling a bit out of sorts.

This isn't a good week to make a major life decision because you really don't know who you are or where your life is going at the moment (!) Well, hopefully it's only for the moment!

Not to worry, just drift along for another day or two and you'll wash up on shore at precisely the right place to continue your journey.
Another great read for the summer ... cover How do we evaluate the power and utility of language when it has been manipulated to circumvent the truth at high levels or charged with vulgarity and imprecision by mass-consumer culture? How can fractured language adapt to the demands of more exact speech required by mathematics and symbolic notation? These are some of the questions addressed in this elegantly written book, first published in 1967 to international acclaim.

A LITTLE SASS WITH A LOT OF CLASS

I want everyone to know about Sassy. Check out the really cool vintage jewelry HERE
Napoleon and Pedro ... but which one is the introvert?

There's a great movie out now for introverts. It's called NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. If you want to see something really different, run don't walk to your nearest Landmark Theater.

The relationship between Kip and LaFawnda is a very good example of the kind of relationship that can happen for introverted men. Kip is intelligent, nice looking and very introverted. LaFawnda adores him and leads the way. Go see this movie, introverted guys, and see what can happen if you let it!

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ASTROLOGER FINDS DREAM COLLEAGUE AND COLLABORATOR IN GERMANY

It could only happen in the 21st century because she's a "Virtual" Coleague!

I would like to introduce ANDREA JURIK, my long awaited and deeply appreciated new colleague, the answer to my professional dreams. I've been looking for someone like Andrea for many years!! Andrea is my Virtual Colleague as she is living in Germany, though born in what used to be Czechoslovakia. Andrea was actually born in the eastern part, called Slovakia, and her native language is Slovak but her passion is for English. She writes it perfectly, like a college graduate, and she differentiates easily between British, American and Australian English, as we try to serve our clients from all over the world in a way that's comfortable for them!

Many who learned of my website through their SATURN RETURN READINGS have already interacted with Andrea.

Here she is with her cat and a birthday strawberry pie.

From ANDREA'S WEBSITE:

ANDREA JURIK regards herself as a Renaissance person, who believes in the real connection between art and science, the heart and reason and spiritual and material reality.

She has been interested in fine-arts, psychology, astrology and alternative forms of healing since her early teens and continued her exploration during university studies, during which she had the opportunity to spend time studying in Great Britain, France and the US. She took part in many programs including the International Conference of Process-Oriented Psychology with Arnold Mindell. She also studied traditional healing Tao Yoga with RENTAO RAVASIO in Switzerland, obtained a Master Reiki degree and became certified in Past Life Regression therapy.

After her university studies, Andrea entered the corporate world, where she could use her intuition and knowledge about human nature in the evaluation of human potential. She began to feel the work didn´t use her whole potential, so she began to build a private counseling practice, using more of her combined experience and knowledge.

During her recent Saturn return, Andrea decided to leave her corporate career and build her counseling practice full-time. Recently, she met Nancy R. Fenn online. Our common passion for astrology, spirituality, mythology and many other things has evoked our mutual friendship and professional cooperation.

Andrea with a little goat

Please visit Andrea's WEBSITE and learn more about this remarkable young woman. Be sure to schedule some distance Reiki healing if you'd like.

Looking for some great summer reads? Of course you are! You're an introvert, aren't you?

cover [click book cover to order from amazon] This is a terrific book to get your feet wet understanding the history and setting of the current situation in the Middle East. I love to learn but I love a book to be well written, too -- and this book fits the criteria. It is a very easy read. In fact I could hardly put it down. Kaplan is a terrific writer.

cover [click book cover to order from amazon] Here's a book that will horrify and intrigue, that's for sure. It came out a couple of years ago but if you didn't get around to reading it yet, like me, it's a really fascinating read. I don't eat junk food, don't own a tv and likely won't change my lifestyle as a result of reading this book but it confirms my beliefs and observations about the influence of these things on American culture. It is a well written, even humorous at times, book and a great summer read. Especially for Californians, I think. It helps us understand where we came from in terms of placement in this century, in this continent.

THE TOP TEN THINGS ALEXANDER THE GREAT DID TO BE IRRESISTIBLY ATTRACTIVE

[Reproducing a Coachville TOP TEN for leadership.]

1. He created legends around himself.

As a boy Alexander tamed a famous horse that no one else could tame. The horse was named Bucephalus and Alexander did this by figuring out that the horse was afraid of its own shadow.

2. For an encounter with the enemy, he dressed in a special and conspicuous style.

Alexander's helmet shone like silver and sported magnificent snow-white plumes. Over his armor, he slung a magnificent cloak and had carried near him the sacred armor he took from the Temple of Athena at Troy (relics of the Trojan War). And he always rode Bucephalus into battle.

3. He was a master of psychological manipulation.

Alexander gave certain people the right to kiss him as a Persian potentate. He later withdrew the right and used it to manipulate his followers. Some could and some could not.

4. He made dramatic gifts.

Alexander gave all the newly married men in his army a chance to return home for awhile. He also paid off all the debts of his veterans and, more importantly, he did iT for them while they kept their anonymity.

5. He used praise to motivate and to create loyalty in his followers.

Before a battle, Alexander personally praised any former noble acts of bravery, citing both the deed and the man. He implied: You have done it before. You can do it again.

6. He acted decisively.

When some veterans mutinied, Alexander immediately fingered 13 of the ringleaders and had them marched off for instant death. As the stunned crowd watched, he pointed to each of the condemned men personally and harangued them for their disloyalty.

7. He was dramatic.

Alexander sometimes feigned sleep before a great battle or in the face of danger as a dramatic gesture of reassurance to his subordinates.

8. He kept his word.

Alexander always said he would fight only as long as his men wanted to follow him. When at last they refused, he turned back toward home, honoring their wishes.

9. He refused to complicate things.

Alexander is famous for the myth of cutting the Gordian knot. This symbolizes that he is a man of action who will not let things get too complicated before doing something about it.

10. He showed compassion.

Alexander personally visited the wounded, asked each man how his wound was received and encouraged him to recount and even to boast of his exploits.

I've been playing tennis this summer, at least an hour and a half every day. Bought a new Wilson Hyper Hammer racquet and can't quite get my shots under control yet. It's a fantastic racquet for power. My daughter beats me every time!

I began playing tennis in high school and fancied some day I would be like Billie Jean King. My parents didn't have that much money so my sister and I mostly hit on the backwalls at the high school and never had any coaching or lessons. I played a little with my ex-husband when we were in college and dating but he was almost semi-pro level and I wasn't so it usually endede in someone being impatient with someone who wasn't as good :-)

In my mid thirties, I switched to racquetbsll which I still consider the best overall workout minute for minute that there is. I played with my neighbor Larry Manquero. It ruined my tennis and that's what I'm recovering now ... not to use my wrist like for racquetball slapshots but to use my arm differently. Slowly it's all coming back.

I'll let you know when I can rush the net again and when I can get a reliable first serve!
If you've been following the business and stock market news -- lately eclipsed by war and election news -- Kenneth (Ken) Lay of Enron has been indicted and will surrender to federal authorities in Houston this morning. The indictment will be unsealed today.

Interestingly, his chances of acquittal would be greater if he'd committed murder. The odds of acquittal on securities charges are just more than 7%, and they likely fade even further for multiple-count indictments such as the one Lay faces, according to an article today in Forbes magazine online.

Read HARVESTING THE SEEDS OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER for some insight about recent developments in business and the stock market over the past 10 years, including offenders like Ken Lay and Bernie Ebbers.

From an Interview with David Benioff, screenwriter for Troy. This is a very heartwarming story about mothers and sons and the different things that shape our lives.

I put this on here because it's so much like how I felt about The Iliad. Like Benioff, it's one of the first things I ever remember reading.

A few years ago, my daughter, a classics major, told me the story lying in bed at night until I got the characters straight. Since I read it first in Latin, one excruciating word at a time, I never really got the entire flow it it. Anyway, I thought Benioff did a super job on the script. Everyone who went to see it, if they read it earlier in their lives, would be breathing life into those characters anyway. You wouldn't want them to be too complex or developed.

Q: How do you take such a classic and turn it into a Hollywood movie?

Benioff: Chutzpah. But really I was such a novice I didn’t know enough to be afraid of it. It was the second script that I wrote. The Iliad has always been my favorite book – [Nancy's note: Isn't that amazing? Well, really, why should it be. But if this isn't the perfect pair, I don't know what is.]

Q: You read it in school?

Benioff: Actually I heard it first from my mother. When I was a little kid my mother was bedridden and she would read me whatever she was reading at the time. When I was six she read me The Iliad. Of course the book was composed to be spoken, and in a good translation it has this great rhythm. Even before I understood what was going on I was swept up in the rhythm of it. Hector and Achilles were heroes of mine even before I began reading comic books. Before Spider-Man and the X-Men I was obsessed with these two. When I got older I thought it was weird that they hadn’t made the big movie of it.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A CENTURY MAKES

As time goes by:

This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1904 ...one
hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some of the
U.S. statistics for 1904:

The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years.

Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. [I can still remember the "excitement" of a long distance phone call ... because they were so expensive ... nobody would interrupt you and you had to RUN to the phone. Some older people still act this way although the cost today is nothing!]

A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.

There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.

Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated
than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the
21st most populous state in the Union.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.

The average wage in the U.S. was 22 cents an hour. The average U.S worker
made between $200 and $400 per year.

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist
$2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a
mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.

More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. took place at home.

Ninety percent of all U.S. physicians had no college education. Instead,
they attended medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and
by the government as "substandard."

Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was
fifteen cents a pound.

Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks
for shampoo.

Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for
any reason.

The five leading causes of death in the U.S. were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke
[This one particularly interested me. It reminded me that the reason for the "rise" in cancer and heart attackes as killers is because of the end of those other one-time killers such as pneumonia and influenza, due to such nice things as penicillin drugs. I know if it weren't for antibiotics, I personally wouldn't be here today. I nearly died of the flu at 29.]

The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and
Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet.

The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was 30.

Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented.

There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.

Two of 10 U.S. adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all
Americans had graduated high school.

Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at
corner drugstores. According to one pharmacist, "Heroin clears the
complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels,
and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health."

Eighteen percent of households in the U.S. had at least one full-time
servant or domestic.

There were only about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S.

.... And this was forwarded to me from someone else who didn't type it themselves, and
sent it to lots of other people in a matter of seconds! Try to imagine what it may be
like in another 100 years ... it staggers the mind.

THE WISDOM OF CROWDS, THE WISDOM OF BLOGS ... an interesting article heralding a new book by James Surowiecki.

In an experiment a class was asked to guess how many jellybeans were in a jar. When collected, tallied and averaged, the class guessed 851. There were 875 jelly beans ... or anyway that's close enough to get the point across. Only one student made a better guess than the average. The book contains many other examples of crowd wisdom. Fascinating!
One of my clients told me about a great website for processing "problems". It's called THE WORK OF BYRON KATIE. This is how the work is introduced, "For thousands of years we’ve been told not to judge, but we still do it all the time—how our friends should act, whom our children should care about, what our parents should feel, do, or say. In The Work, rather than suppress these judgments, we use them as starting points for self-realization. By letting the judging mind have its life on paper, we can discover through the mirror of those around us what we haven’t yet realized about ourselves."

Does this sound like fun or what? YOu can even do this whole process online.

You can download your worksheet and get started or even fill it out online. LET'S BEGIN WITH THE ONLINE WORKSHEET

SEREBELLA Nancy's website THE INTROVERTZCOACH has been added as a resource to and we're mighty proud.
WINDOWS MBTI STYLE This is really humorous and fun.
In an interesting debate which would not take place in America, The British House of Lords ... has rejected an outright ban on smacking children, and backed a compromise allowing parents to resort to "mild smacking". Parents could be prosecuted if they cause 'actual bodily harm'.

Smacking is banned if it causes bruises, scratches, reddening of the skin, mental harm or if implement used .

Hmmmm, a difficult area. I normally am against all forms of physical anything but when I worked in the gang-infested areas of National City and saw what boys are like who feel no fear or respect of or for anyone or anything and due to having been raised by adoring or intimidated mothers, with no threat of corporeal punishment to persuade the little darlings to mend their ways and try acts of kindness instead or mayhem, well, I had to rethink this.

Have your read the latest "I WATCH for Introverts" movie essay by Hadley Ajana? The essay is on Quickchange and you can find it HERE.

MY TROY PAGE IS DONE

I am illustrating Sun Sign characteristics by twelve different characters from Troy.

Click here to open the page. SUN SIGNS IN TROY But first, can you guess which sign goes with which character?

Briseis: "Why did you choose this life?"
Achilles: "What life?"
Briseis: "To be a great warrior."
Achilles: "I chose nothing. I was born and this is what I am."

There is only one sign in the Zodiac that could make a statement like this? Do you know what it is?

These are the 12 I've chosen, listed alphabetically:

1. Achilles
2. Agamemnon
3. Andromache
4. Briseis
5. Eudorus
6. Hector
7. Helen
8. Nestor
9. Odysseus
10. Patroclus
11. Priam
12. Thetis

Can you guess which goes with which sign? Let me know how you do. You can check your answers with mine at SUN SIGNS WITH TROY

If you're a classics major, or if you've read The Iliad, I'd also like help with THE TROJAN WAR STUDY GUIDE About half the answers are missing. Do you know what some of the answers are?
What about your YOUR SECOND SATURN RETURN? Are you between the ages of 58 and 60?

Recently I was asked to speak at my college's 30 year reunion about "what was left". I had to turn down this gloomy opportunity. To me, IT'S JUST BEGINNING!
