Sometimes, accepting things in life is simply a matter of perception. Take
for instance the cell phone. Unlike most introverts, I love my cell phone.
Okay, I hated it at first, too. About 8 years ago a builder that I was doing
consulting work for bought me one. Over time, I learned to love it - not
because I suddenly developed the urge to chat but because I learned to use
it as a tool.
Connectivity has reduced my stress in many ways:
1. Because I am always connected, my subcontractors can reach me when they
have an issue. I can avoid driving/rushing to the jobsite (which I hate) to
meet with everyone.
2. Because I am always connected, I can use my intuitive strengths to resolve
problems before they occur. I am connected to my associates and when ideas
hit me, I can contact them as necessary.
3. Because I am always connected, I can avoid communication problems and
avoid face-to-face confrontations, which I hate.
4. Because I am always connected, my friends and associates can always reach
me. I am an INFJ counselor, and directing my friends and associates is a
big part of who I am. I can have brief but effective conversations without
having to leave my home or work or wherever. Better yet, I don't have to
worry about visitors.
I really think that controlled use of the cell phone has allowed me to find
more recharging time. I am able to do more things, such as take Buddy (my
Yellow Lab) to a secluded beach without shirking my responsibilities. I can
be detached but available. Most of my friends and associates have long-ago
accepted that I am not the social chatty type. They only call when it is
important.
