The card says:

It's very hard
to understand
Why certain things must be
But may you find
some comfort
In these words of sympathy

Signed:
Very sincerely,
Bob Cole
(New York Times)
(I covered the SEC all the time he was there)

Then on the side of the card he has written:

Dear Mrs. Garrett --

Ray was one of the nicest people I ever met in Washington.

He was decent. He was honest. He was a genuine (underlined twice) human being. And I think the qualities he had shone through for everyone to see and everyone truly loved him.

This alone it seems to me will be a lasting memory.
