Communication is an ideal. To your left is the archer stringing his bow. Good communication is well prepared for, patiently cultivated and true to the mark.
Do you remember playing the "telephone game" as a kid? Someone starts a message around the circle and by the time it reaches the end/beginning, it's usually not very much like the way it started. So we're discussing an ideal.
There are four aspects to communication: writing, reading, listening and speaking. Content aside, extroverts excel at speaking. Introverts excel at writing, reading and listening. So let's keep our perspective here! We are excellent communicators when the full range of the task, or "art" is kept in mind.
We can improve our ability to speak by remembering to use the metaphor. Our thoughts are intense. We dom't like to speak "off the cuff". Extroverts like to talk just to hear themselves talk ... it does something for them. For us, Silence is Golden.
The metaphor helps us say more in less. For example, my friend Natalie is an infp introvert. Listening to her talk is like watching a cherry tree bloom. My friend Hector walks with the gods. And another ... my daughter is a strong Aries. She comes into someone's life when their house is on fire and they are asleep on the second floor.
We use the language of poets. The infp intovert type is called the Poet (and the Healer). We make connections between one reality and another. This way we really say something when we speak. We teach, counsel and heal. So let's speak more. Let's learn how.
