Dear Ginger --
Your wonderful husband was one of the finest and ablest
men with whom it has been my privilege to be associated.
I think he was enjoying life -- not only with you, but
the firm, and the rewards of good judgment, initiative,
and a willingness to take responsibilities. He was at
the top of our profession and so recognized.
You
know all this, but having friends express appreciation
can somehow be a little helpful. But the sudden catastrophy
of Ray's illness and death falls most heavily upon you
and I think there is little any of us can say or do that
brings comfort. My heart goes out to you.
I
lost Grace, the mother of our four boys thirty years
ago this week so I know of the lonely valley you have
entered. But with your children and your work you will
find how to live with sorrow -- and that life can still
be good. I'm sorry not to be home to take part in honoring
you both.
Affectionately,
Jim Douglas
