The School Years

Let's face it, the school years for most introverts are very difficult. It's not the academic or athletic part, it's the "social" part.

Introverts are very drained by the amount of interaction which is considered part of a normal school day. Usually by the time they get home, they are exhausted.

Parents can help by understanding this simple fact and even allow some "personal time off" days even when a child isn't sick. After all, mental health is as important as physical health and for introverts, they are pretty much the same thing.

Every introvert, even a child, needs a room with a door that closes. Introverts are territorial and suffer if their space is continually invaded. Please respect your child's need for privacy and allow them to go to their room AND CLOSE THE DOOR after a rough day at school. Please don't berate them for not going out to play or for not "making more friends". They need this time alone to recharge their batteries.

Other introverts have mentioned the horror of dormitory rooming and wonder how they got out alive! It should be the goal of every introvert to have a bedroom, office or work space all their own.
