The Persona

We know spiritually that it is important to find oneself and be oneself. This is a major message from all the great religions of the world, a major tenet, in fact, of all of them.

Carl Jung has actually advised that the way to win as an introvert is to become MORE of an introvert ... that is to become more conscious about yourself as an introvert.

Introverts should never try to be like extroverts. But is important to develop a good "persona" or superficial personality for social occassions and things like work and school.

Sometimes, especially with introverted children, it is good to "rehearse" an important upcoming event like a wedding or school event. Introverts need time to think about what they are going to say to each person.

One seasoned introvert recommends adapting a rather bland persona so that chatty extroverts are quickly bored and move on. It is also helpful to pile stuff on the chair next to you or remove extra chairs from your office so that others are not tempted to take root in there!

NANCY'S READER COMMENTS
I am an introvert but I think I have developed a persona that is taking over!!

I am pretty sure I'm an introvert as I recharge energy by being having time alone. I did a MBTI and am an ISTJ. As I work in a technical, male dominated field, I had decided that to do well at work I will adopt a "one of the boys", outgoing persona and had worked hard at it over the years. However, lately I found that a guy at work whom I like had a totally wrong impression of who I am because I had play my persona so well!! It's almost like I have bury my real self so deep (due to work, and thinking that I should be more socialable) that I have lost it. Beware of losing your true self and get misunderstood by people whom you want to see your real self.
