PETER THE GREAT
This is the very, very, very great man who founded this city.
This statue is located on the grounds of the Peter and Paul Fortress
(where all the Romanov Tsars are buried).

This is a very controversial statue because as you can see Peter has a pinhead.
Nevertheless, the face is done from a death mask and
seems true to other renderings of this great man.
It has now become a tradition for schoolbooys and other silly lads and lassies
to climb on this Peter's lap. The Europeans are very big about visiting statues and other
important places of historical interest in their cities on occasions like marriage and graduation.

Russian school boys - don't know what the occasion was, could only stand there
in horror, wondering what poor Peter would think!
On second thought, he did have a Museum of "Curioisites", freaky things collected from
all over Europe, so one wonders if anything would seem strange to him.
